Cadbury Boost
Date: Wed 6 Apr 05
"What?! You can't afford $1.44 for a 60g chocolate bar. I don't care if it is 'NEW' from Cadbury. You've got a mortgage" I scream at myself in a high pitched nasely whine - you know how it sounds.

"I don't care if it is called 'Boost'. Where is the special guarana or ginseng or caffeine? - absent Sir. It's got nothing - just milk chocolate and caramel - MEGA boring."
"It's just after Easter for crying out loud. You don't even feel like Chocolate."
On to the review (cause I did actually trick myself into buying it in the end. You know how you can trick yourself? By waiting in line at the cash register, then grabbing the bar from the 'impulse rack' at the last second and slamming it down on the little grocery conveyor belt device so that the checkout chick sees it. And once she's seen it, there's no going back. She gives you that knowing look and you give her a nonchalant shug, like, 'hey lady, i know it's chocolate, but y'know what? I don't care - I can eat chocolate cause I exercise lots and need energy'.)
So anyway, the Boost bar...There are 3 main layers most probably based on the structure of the earth itself - a soft
smooth outer chocolate shell (the earth's dense rock surface), a thin layer of caramel (liquid iron), then a thick rich chocolate center (solid iron core).
It does in fact taste more expensive than your other run-of-the-mill chocolate bars. It feels rich in the mouth and boasts a pleasant malty aftertaste.
BTW, did anyone see the comedian on Rove last night. He was very good - not in a witty observantionist intelligent kind-of-way, but more of a bizare and theatrical and dark and absurb kind-of-way.
Cadbury Picnic Honeycomb
Date: Sat 19 Feb 05
How dastardly can these chocolate marketeers be? Before the substance of last nights indulgence has had a chance to complete it's journey through my internal passageways, I'm already being compelled to indulge again.
It was the brightly colored 'New' label that caught my eye, yet again. This time, on a chocolate which I am not thoroughly familiar with - Cadbury's Picnic.

In any case, they have created a honeycomb variant. I thought I'd Judge this one strictly on it's own merits, as I can't fairly compare it to the original Picnic bar which I've not had much to do with at all.
On to my verdict: Crisp exterior (snaps off cleanly with a little teeth pressure) with a lightly chewable middle. A little bit crumbly (a legacy from the original picnic bar I suspect). But overall...forgettable...literally.
You see, just after I started eating this bar, I got distracted, and finished eating the bar totally unaware of what I was doing. It wasn't till a few minutes after I'd finished (and forgotten the flavours, the texture, the chocolate-ness) that I remembered that I was supposed to be paying special attention to what I'd just been eating.
So, go out and buy it if you wish. But I can't really recomend for or against.
KitKat Cappuccino
Date: Fri 18 Feb 05
A chocolate bar with "New" printed in bright colors in the upper right hand corner? It might as well have been wrapped in a big label saying 'Cade, buy me and eat me. I might just be delicious. And even if I'm not, at least you can write about it on your blog.'

Well here's the word, folks - the new KitKat Cappuccino flavour chocolate bar is spot-on. Retaining the delicious KitKat style but with a generous cappuccino flavouring.
It's as though they've taken the kitkat, and immersed in a cup of cappuccino, and the cappuccino flavouring has infused every bit of the chocolate, without melting it at all...
I cannot find a fault. On sale right now at Riverwood Safeway for $1 p/bar (marked down from $1.36).
Nestle Milo bar
Date: Mon 27 Dec 04
I'm a sucker for anything that claims to be an 'energy food'. I'll usually try it once, then if the taste appeals, make it a regular staple.

Nestle Milo bar is a case in point.
I can't remember which I tried first - the milo cereal or the milo bar, but I like them both, despite their very different tastes and textures.
Just as the wrapper claims, the milo bar has a soft top - some kind of chewy malty/chocolate substance, with a more biscuity crunchy base. I've found that although the King size version is always tempting, I can only really stomach it after a long run. One of my more excessive long run recover treats is a king size milo bar and 600ml Vanilla Coke.
One small word of warning - I wouldn't recomend this bar if you are only mildly interested in have a choclate treat. You've got to really be craving chocolate to fully appreciate the milo bar flavour. Otherwise, the aftertaste may seem a little strong and linger too long.
The milo cereal is another entry altogether.
Mars lava
Date: Wed 17 Nov 04
And so I begin my series of chocolate bar reviews.
I've always been keen on chocolate bars, particularly when they are bargain priced. This time last year I was probably eating too many - it became a daily routine.
But I've cut back this year, for no particular reason. I've rationalised that 'cause of my running I can pretty much eat whatever I want.

Anyways, let me tell you about the Mars Lava bar. This product has been out for a few months. It's still very much a Mars bar but with a thick and generous orange 'jafa' nougat flavour.
Whilst sweet, it's surprisingly light and smooth - and very 'eatable'. By that I mean, it doesn't leave you feeling guilty cause you've stuffed yourself on chocolate. Rather it has a pleasant aftertaste - a light jafa fragrance in your mouth.
In summary, I'd say give it a go. Orange flavour freaks might make it their favourite, but for me, it holds it's own as a pleasant change.
